Learning Log 7
First and foremost, I would like to thank Mrs Woo and the entire Literature department for giving all the secondary two classes the opportunity of carrying out the skit on Romeo and Juliet. Apart from having a more in-depth understanding of the characters and storyline of the story, we have definitely learnt many more valuable lessons in this unforgettable experience. Overall, I am very well pleased with my group performance on Thursday. I was assigned by my director to train my team mates in their acting skills. On Thursday, all our effort paid off when we carried out a superb performance. Although we had various arguments and dissatisfaction along the way, we were always able to come to a mutual agreement. I would like to have more of such performance in the future as I feel that this is a way that I am able to learn more about literature and my friend’s personality. Lastly, I would definitely recommend my juniors to have such experiences, as I personally feel that it will be a experience that they will never forget.

Learning Log 6
I have learned a lot about literary devices during literature lesson in these couple of weeks. Firstly, I found out that every literary device is unique in its own special way. Some literary devices may have similar functions but overall, all are different in their own way. Over the last few weeks, I have learnt new literary devices such as Onomatopoeia, Personification, Alliteration and much more. I have also learned how to identify the different literary devices in a poem and how to comment on the quote that the poet uses in the poem. Lastly, I am able to make use of the literary devices that I learn during lessons to understand and answer questions much more clearly.

Learning Log 5
After reading the guide on how to tackle unseen poems, I have learned many strategies to approach an unseen poem. The first strategy that I got to know from reading the guide is that I have to read the poem three times all for different purposes. The purpose of the first reading is to gain an idea bout what the text is about. The purpose of the second reading is to gain a better understanding about what is going on and who the characters are. The purpose of the third reading is to annotate the text and make notes in the margins. During the third reading, I should also take note where I might be able to find the answers to the questions. For quoting phrases from the text, use inverted comas. However if I am quoting a sentence, I should use colons. The guide also states that I should proceed on to the second text if the first one is too much for m understanding. This is because getting the right meaning is very crucial in answering the questions. The guide has also taught me that I should take note of when and where the text or poem took place and could the poet be conveying a certain mood. Next, I should take note of the technique used by the poet and what the purpose of the technique is and how it affects me, the reader. The next thing that I should note is to be careful not to make my response in the essay too personal. In this guide, I also learned how to organise my essay. Firstly I should always start my essay with a statement that immediately answers the question. Next, I should note down the points that I will be making in the body of the essay. The body of the essay should consist the main points and should take up about five to eight paragraph. Each paragraph of the body of the essay should include the point, evidence, elaboration and personal response. For the conclusion of the essay, I should state the major claim or argument of the essay and summarise the key points made in the essay.

Learning Log 4
Dear Mrs Woo I enjoyed performing the Macbeth skit for my class on Wednesday(13 April 2011) My group did not have much of a problem as we got along very well. Each of us were asign to do a particular job. I was in-charge of buying the props and making the witch pot. My group was able to co-operate well with each other and together we were able to carry out a successful performance. As for the explosion that came out of the pot, I was the one who thought of that idea but I must give credit to my group for thinking of a way to pull it through. They were the ones who thought of the idea to cut a hole in the cardboard so that the explosion was possible to execute. Finally I would like to thank "Mr Number Selecter" for choosing such great teammates for me

Learning Log 3
Dear Mrs Woo
The lesson on superstition and predictions was rather interesting. We were divided into groups of four and was told to write about a true story that had happened to any of the groupp members. However only some of the groups listened and followed the instruction. Sadly, my group was one of the many groups that did not follow the instruction. After the groups have discussed and chosen a story to present to the class, our teacher told us to assign a number from one to four to every member in the group. Following that, a number selector appeared on the screen and randomly selected a number. Later on, Yuet Yuan was selected to represent my group to present our story to the class. The class roared with laughter as each story was being narrated. Finally, I would like say that I do not believe in any superstition as I feel that it is sinply an excuse for people to believe that everything happens for a reason.

Learning Log 2
Dear Mrs Woo
I have enjoyed the lesson on Superstition (21st January) and Macbeth (24th January). During the lesson on Superstition, not only did I get to learn about many superstitions that my classmates believe in, I also got involved in group works. During the lesson on Macbeth, I got to hear some of my classmates’ voice impressions of the three witches in “Macbeth”.
The lesson that I enjoyed most was the lesson on “Macbeth. During that lesson, I got to watch a scene from a “Macbeth” movie which was taken in the 1970’s. From there I got an idea of how to present the play in Term 2. Over all I enjoyed both the Literature lessons and learn many things from it.

Learning Log 1
Dear Mrs Woo
I enjoyed the lesson on "cinquain" in which I had learnt to write a cinquain poem and felt that it is a unique style of literature writing. Not only had I learn how to use different narrative to describe an object, but also got to 'discover' myself through writing this poem.
I particularly enjoy the explanation that the word "cinquain" derives from a Greek word meaning - a poem consisting of five lines.
I would like to share my thoughts and give suggestions in which how future lesson could be further improve.
-The lesson may be carried out in a form of a video presentation whereby other samples of conquain poetry are shown.
-The class should involve in more group activities. As the saying goes:"Two heads are better than one". By doing more grouo activities, we could also learn more from each other.
-Lessons would definitely be more interesting if there were more interaction between you and the designated groups. (By attending to each group during group discussions)
